Living Wage Week 2023: A Time to Reflect and Act
This week (6th – 12th November 2023), Step Up is taking part in the Living Wage Week campaign. This annual campaign, run by the Living Wage Foundation, aims to highlight the importance of fair pay and the true value of employees across the UK. This campaign follows a year of spiralling prices and a deepening cost of living crisis, affecting not only businesses but individuals and families across Britain.
The importance of the Living Wage commitment cannot be overstated. It goes beyond the legal minimum wage, acknowledging the real cost of living, including essentials like food, transportation, childcare, and more.
Step Up, a proud Living Wage Employer since 2017, is part of a growing movement of over 14,000 accredited organisations that understand the necessity of fair compensation in today’s world. Not only does it support the livelihoods of hardworking individuals and families, but it also has tangible benefits for worker wellbeing, retention, and productivity. By ensuring our employees receive a real Living Wage, Step Up underlines its commitment to fair compensation and the recognition of the contributions of our staff.
The services we provide daily to the people in our care, are only made possible through the actions of our team, and their dedication and hard work. For Step Up, Living Wage accreditation is not just a checkbox; but a promise to treat our employees ethically and ensure they are fairly rewarded for their efforts.
This Living Wage Week, we want to take a moment to express our appreciation for our employees and the remarkable work they do day in and day out. We also hope to inspire other employers to embrace the mission of the Living Wage movement. While there is still work to be done on this journey towards fair pay and recognition, we firmly believe that together, we can drive the change that is needed.
