Empowering Young People: Financial Wellbeing at Step Up
Throughout August, we are focusing on all things finance, for both our team and the young people that they support. Step Up provides guidance, care, and support for young people in Forth Valley who are at risk of social, economic and educational disadvantage. We work hard to provide person-centred support and create long-term to enable our young people to reach positive outcomes.
Transitioning to independent living can be a daunting experience for young people, and managing finances is often a significant challenge. At Step Up, we understand the importance of financial wellbeing and provide comprehensive support to help young people develop the skills and confidence to manage their money effectively.
Building a Strong Financial Foundation
Our Support Workers play a crucial role in guiding young people towards living independently. We believe that by equipping young people with the necessary tools and knowledge, they can make informed decisions about their money and build a secure financial future.
Here’s just some of the ways our team might help the young people we support:
Budgeting and Financial Planning: We work closely with young people to create realistic budgets, helping them understand their income and expenses. Our support extends to assisting with bill payments, rent negotiations, and exploring options for financial assistance.
Developing Essential Life Skills: We focus on developing essential life skills, including cooking, cleaning, and maintaining a home. These skills contribute to overall financial wellbeing by reducing living costs and promoting independent living.
Employability Support: We help our young people to identify their strengths, interests, and career goals. We provide guidance on CV writing, interview techniques, and job searching strategies. By helping young people secure stable employment, we empower them to achieve financial independence.
Digital Literacy: In today’s digital age, financial literacy often involves online banking and managing finances digitally. We support young people in developing digital skills to enable them to navigate online banking platforms and access financial information securely.
We believe that financial wellbeing is an essential component of overall wellbeing. By addressing financial challenges, we can help young people lead fulfilling and independent lives.
