Getting to know: Shannon
Our ‘Getting to know…‘ series continues with Shannon, who is one of the newer members of the Step Up Team. Shannon tells a little about herself and why she decided to join us!
Q: How long have you worked in the Care Sector?
A: I have worked in the Care Sector for 8 years. I started of in 2012, caring for the elderly and then transitioned into support work in 2015.
Q: How did you end up in your line of work?
A: I’ve always wanted to work in the Care Sector. My career started after I applied for a job doing home-care, since then I have progressed in my own professional development and have gained my SVQ2.
Q: What made you want to join the Step Up team?
A: I was interested in applying for job at Step Up as I wanted to gain more experience and new skills by working with different age groups.
Q: What’s been your biggest learning experience in your new role?
A: My biggest learning experience is through starting employment and working through COVID-19. I have had to adapt to all the changes and getting to know service users whilst maintaining social distancing and following the correct guidelines.
Q: Could you tell us a little about how you’ve adapted your role in line with social distancing measures and how this has affected your work?
A: I have adapted my role through guidance and following the correct policies and procedures that are updated in line with government guidelines.
Q: What have you enjoyed most about working with Step Up so far?
A: I have enjoyed learning new skills and meeting new people, I am learning more and more each and every day.
Q: What do you like most about your role?
A: What I like most about my role is working as part of team, learning new skills on a daily basis, thinking outside of the box and learning to adapt to different situations.
